What's going on in Indonesia?

Everyone knows that recently the Indonesian Parliament passed the TNI bill, which has sparked criticism not just among Indonesian citizens but also from some in the international community. Protests, while common, have increased; however, I dug deeper when I found that various entities addressing the issue have received some sort of threats. For example, Indonesian media outlet Tempo received a rotten pig's head and six decapitated rats. Some Indonesians believe this is linked to the six Tempo journalists handling the Bocor Alus Politik podcast, which exposes those lobbying behind the TNI bill.

Many Indonesians have noticed changes in Ferry Irwandi's latest video. I came across this interpretation on Facebook, where many believe that Ferry is sending a hidden "message" in that video. He also posted images of his family on Instagram, raising the question: Is he being threatened?

Many also view this as a return to the New Order era. Briefly, the New Order refers to the Suharto administration, which was marked by human rights violations, such as the torture of opposition members, intimidation of human rights activists, corruption, and poor economic policies. There was widespread instability, and when the 1998 Asian financial crisis hit, Indonesia was also affected, leading to the end of Suharto's regime.

Recently, Prabowo requested immigration authorities to monitor the movements of foreign nationals in Indonesia. Prabowo, who was a special agent and understands the realities of politics and national security, has raised concerns. I myself once took a short course in intelligence analysis and national security, but this request seems strange, as it would require foreigners to report their whereabouts to immigration for security reasons, potentially creating unnecessary bureaucratic complications.
